I have been hearing the rumors for a few weeks about the new flagship camera Samsung was planning to add to their NX line-up. Today, the NX1 SMART Camera was announced at Photokina in Cologne, Germany. Photokina is a leading imaging fair held every two years. The event brings together the professional and consumer based users who have a mad passion for photography.
I am a Samsung Imagelogger and our group of 51 photographers has been buzzing all morning about the camera. A couple of the US-based Imageloggers are in Germany for the event and they said the atmosphere there is electric.
From what I have seen and read about the NX1, the camera is a serious contender in the professional photography market. According to Samsung, the NX1 combines professional image quality with cinema quality Ultra High Definition/4K resolution video recording and industry leading SMART connectivity. In other words, it brings together Samsung’s SMART camera technology, 4K video capabilities and their fastest autofocus system to date in a portable body.
Inside, the NX1 has a 28MPCMOS sensor. The SMART technology allows for fast file exchange between the camera and smartphones or tablets using Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth 3.0. You can also tag your photos with location and time metadata using the Photo Beam feature. Oh, and a favorite feature I love with the SMART technology is using my smartphone as a remote viewfinder and shutter trigger.
The camera is expected to be available for sale at the end of October 2014. I am looking forward to seeing the camera and testing it out. It is definitely a game changer.

You make me want expensive cameras. I’m sitting here giving my $80 Sony the biggest side eye right now…
Oh, Jenn! Here is what I tell people about cameras: they are only as good as the person taking the picture. Equipment never makes for a great photographer. It is the person who takes the time to develop their style that becomes great.
So glad I had a chance to be on your show. It was truly thrilling!
This looks beautiful!
Girl. I may have to name the camera when I see it. I was thinking of something manly and sexy…
I swear I was drooling while watching that. This looks wonderful!
Lashawn, they have released a few more videos and the camera just gets better looking every time I look at them. It truly is going to be a game changer in the market.
