Getting in the Christmas Spirit with the Shillito’s Elves

This weekend, my children and I had the opportunity to see the Shillito’s Elves display at Newport on the Levee. It was a good time and the elves displays was great to see.

In 2005 Bill Spinnenweber purchased the Santa’s elves from the old Shillito’s department store display. The animatronic elves, were the center of the Downtown department store’s elaborate Christmastime display from the 1950s though the 1980s. The display had the elves reading and organizing letters to Santa, making and painting toys as well as tracking Santa on the big day. At the end of the elves display was a huge, beautiful sparkly Christmas Dickens City.

Also on display was an amazing Lego City created by Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana Lego User’s Group. We had a great time and this was a great way for us to kick off our month-long celebration of the Christmas holiday. How was your weekend?

That looks like a lot of fun! The only thing we have gotten to do this holiday season is the parade of lights but we had a blast. I found your blog on Bloggy Moms blog hop and I hope you are having a great day.

They look so charming! I’m such a sucker for Christmas displays. When we lived in Chicagoland, we made sure to get the kids downtown every Christmas so they could see the windows. It was such a treat.
