Why You Should Attend a Photo Walk

Photo walks are a great way to improve your photography skills, expand your portfolio and meet new people. A few weeks ago, I attended the Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk in Cincinnati with about 50+ people. I didn’t know any of the people attending, but I left with some new friends and a renewed love of photo walks.

We started our walk in the Mount Adams area and walked to one of the many scenic overlooks in Eden Park. The leaves were just starting to change and we ended up with a beautiful day for the whole event. I enjoy shooting with photographers of all levels and that is one of the purposes of the annual Kelby Photo Walk. I noticed the people who enjoyed the walk the most were the ones who talked to and shared their images with others in the group.

Photography is very personal to me, but I also love connecting with like-minded creatives around a similar interest. When I feel like my work is stale or uninteresting, I find a local group activity to get involved in. You can’t wait to be inspired when creativity is your commodity. I am often called on to create on demand and sometimes, it feels forced instead of inspired.

Being in the midst of people who share one of your interests will spark your creativity. What I love about photography is no two people will see the same scene the same way. Looking at the way another person captures their images can inspire you to see differently, try a new technique and create an image that takes your work to a new level.

Below are a few of my favorite images from the walk. Tell me, have you attended a photo walk before? What is your favorite part of the experience?
