7 Photo Apps for Android Photographers

I am often asked which photo apps I use on my Android device to edit and share my images. Here is an ever-evolving list of what I like using and recommend to Android photographers. Most of these apps are also available for the iPhone.

Snapseed is my go to app when I want to quickly edit my images. I can easily crop the image, correct exposure and add a fun filter or tilt-shift to my images. Another nice thing about Snapseed is there is a built-in Google+ desktop version that allows you to do the same thing the app does. Plus, the app makes it easy to share your images with your friends and family. The app is free.

VSCO Cam is another nice app with a lot of diverse filters and your ability to control how the image looks. The only thing I don’t like about this app is I get lost in the weeds tweaking my images to look a certain way. VSCO Cam has a lot of free filters and filters for purchase. VSCO Grid is integrated in the app and is a great way to check out of photographers and their work. It is nice if you are looking for some inspiration. Their blog/journal is also integrated in the app and they feature photographers and links of interests to their users. This app is free.

InstaSize is my go to app for sharing full size versions of my images on Instagram. Instead of having to crop my image to the standard square size for Instagram, I can share the horizontal or vertical image instead. Instasize also comes with its own set of filters, overlays, stickers and borders you can use to jazz up your images. You can also create collages and add words to your images, but I have not used either of these features in the app. Even still, it is great for my intended purposes. This app is free.

Photofy is a free photo enhancement app which allow you to add words, phrases and stickers to your images. The app comes with a variety of typography, graphics and frames. You can share your creation directly from the app to any of your social media channels or save to your gallery. Also, the app does put a watermark on the image you create, but you can pay to remove the watermark.

Photo Grid – Collage Maker to make collages, obviously. It is perfect for creating square shaped collages to share on Instagram. I like that you can shake your device and the app will arrange the pictures for you into a collage which you can easily edit. In edit mode, you can swap photos, zoom in, rotate your images. They also have a variety of frames and backgrounds to enhance your images. Photo Grid is a free app.

I started using Instagram when it first came out on iPhone and it pissed me off when I moved to Android and the app was not available. I really like the Instagram community and I always find someone new to follow weekly. Instagram is my favorite place to share my images and see what everyone else is sharing. It is very inspiring and full of gorgeous pictures and people. Instagram has filters and tilt-shift blur you can use and I admit I don’t often use the filters that come with Instagram. I don’t like my pictures looking like everyone else’s pictures. Instagram is free, but I have noticed more and more sponsored images showing up in my feed lately.

Pinterest Screenshot

Pinterest acts as my digital inspiration boards. While the desktop experience is best, the app has definitely improved since it came out. Pinterest is creative eye candy. Images tend to be very attractive and most of the pins are food related, but they are not all about food. If you are looking for some inspiration, a new DIY project or you just like looking at pretty things, you will like Pinterest as much as I do. Pinterest is a free app.

Well, there you have it. These are my top seven photo apps that live on my Android device at the moment. Regardless of whether you use Android or iPhone as your main device, what photography apps do you like using the most?

Great post. I’ve really started liking Instagram for posting photos of my baby girl. I’m gonna have to check out some of the other apps.
May I ask why you switched from iPhone and what you switched to?ReplyCancel

Misty, I am not loyal to one particular brand when it comes to smartphones. I was due for an upgrade a few years ago and I waited to see what Apple was going to do with the iPhone when I had the 2. Siri was the big upgrade and I was not impressed at all. So, I decided to give the Galaxy a try and I really liked the phone. Only thing I missed were some of the apps for the Apple ecosystem.ReplyCancel

  • Madam, I had never heard of most of these apps. Thank you for the thorough bammness of this post. I love your pictures!

Ha! I have many more apps to share, Sili! I am glad to have shared a few that you did not know about. Now you have something to try out! And, thank you!!ReplyCancel

  • So, I had to rectify a couple of things. The fact that I was NOT following you on IG (why didn’t you force me at Type-A) and the fact that I’m not using some text on SOME of my IG photos. I love text. It is easier sometimes than typing the first comment. Thanks for this post!ReplyCancel

Natasha, it was very nice meeting you at Type-A. I do like the look of type on pictures and there are some good apps out there for it. Hope you are prospering in your photography and doing well!ReplyCancel
