I have quite a few women in my life I like to celebrate on Mother’s Day. One thing I dislike is how commercialized that day has become or how hard it is to take someone to lunch or dinner on Mother’s Day. If you don’t make a reservation weeks in advance, forget taking Momma to lunch at a fancy restaurant. So, this year, I am going to do what my 13 year old does to celebrate people on their birthdays. She makes gifts for them and even creates her own wrapping paper. Plus, I like the personal touch of handmade gifts.
I used to crochet scarves and accessories during the holidays and give those as gifts. I bake a lot during the holidays and for birthdays, so handmade gifts and baked goods have always been part of my gift giving and celebrating important people in my life.
This year, I am making spa gifts such as sugar scrubs, lotions and body spray. I have a growing collection of essential oils I love using and they are perfect for the kinds of gifts I want to create. With Mother’s Day falling in May,
Grapefruit Sugar Scrub
1C Sugar
¼C Oil (Coconut, Apricot, Olive, etc)
14 Drops of Grapefruit Essential Oil
10 Drops of Tangerine Essential Oil
5 Drops of Stress Away Essential Oil
1 Drop of Red Food Coloring
2tsp Grapefruit Juice
Add Essential Oils to the ¼ C of Coconut oil and mix. Then add fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and food coloring to the mixture. Finally, add the cup of sugar and mix well. Store in airtight container and use a scoop when you wash your hands.
The Stress Away essential oil is a mix of: Copaiba, Lime, Cedarwood, Vanilla, Ocotea and Lavendar. It is a nice combination of scents and blends really well with the grapefruit and tangerine essential oils.
If you make this sugar scrub, be sure to share with me what you think of it. I think it might my favorite one so far.
